Longueau Town Hall 2019

Longueau ( Picard : Londjeu) is a northern French municipality with 5621 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the department of Somme in the region of Hauts-de-France . The municipality is located in the arrondissement of Amiens , is part of the Communauté d'agglomération Amiens Métropole and belongs to the canton of Amiens-4 .

geography

Longueau is a suburb of Amiens , from the center of which it is around 4.5 km to the south-east. The municipality at the confluence of the Avre and Somme is located on the D1029 département road (formerly Route nationale 29 ) and has gained importance as a railway junction with extensive railway facilities and a large railway depot ( Paris – Lille line and Amiens to Laon line). To the east, Longueau is bounded by Route nationale 25 , which forms part of the Amiens ring road. The Amiens airfield is located east of the municipality in the area of Glisy . The Somme and Avre valleys are interspersed with numerous stagnant waters. The Hortillonages of Amiens are partly in the municipality.

history

Railway building 1855

In 1277 a leper house is mentioned. In 1636, Longueau was burned down by Spanish troops. The village was reached by railroad in 1846. The Einsenahnkreuz has existed since 1849. Since the LGV Nord went into operation , Longueau has not been served by TGV trains.

The community received the Croix de guerre from 1914-1918.

  • The Saint-Médard church, which was destroyed in the Second World War and rebuilt in 1960, is a concrete building on an irregular floor plan.

Personalities

  • Louis Prot (1889–1972), long-time mayor and member of parliament (Parti communiste français), died here.
