Barly is a northern French municipality with 177 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the department of Somme in the region of Hauts-de-France . The municipality is located in the Arrondissement of Amiens , is part of the Communauté de communes du Territoire Nord Picardie and belongs to the canton of Doullens .

The municipality is located in a side valley of the Authie river (Vallée de Courcelles / Vallée des Vaux), which is not always water-bearing, around ten kilometers northwest of Doullens .

history

In the 11th century, the church and rulership were subordinate to the Counts of Ponthieu.

In both world wars Barly had field airfields .

During the First World War , the Aerodrome Barly-Remaisnil used by the Western Allies was a good 3 km west-northwest of the town and 1 km north of Remaisnil. In the spring and early summer of 1918, a total of four different British squadrons from the Royal Flying Corps and the Royal Air Force were located here, and in the late summer an American air squadron was located here.

During the Second World War there was a German airfield immediately east of Barlys, which was used by various Ju 87B "Stuka" associations of the German Air Force , especially during the Battle of Britain in the second half of 1940 . First, in June 1940, the IV. Group of Lehrgeschwader 1 (IV./LG1) lay here for a few days , followed by Group I of Sturzkampfgeschwader 76 (I./STG 76) until July . At the beginning of July this was renamed the I. Group of Sturzkampfgeschwader 3 (I./STG 3), which was stationed here until December 1940.
