Beauquesne ( Picard : Bieutchène) is a northern French municipality with 1339 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the department of Somme in the region of Hauts-de-France . The municipality belongs to the canton of Doullens and is part of the Communauté de communes du Territoire North Picardie .

geography

The extensive community is located around ten kilometers south-southwest of Doullens on the D23 departmental road to Corbie . The name is derived from the local name of the oak ("Schöneiche").

history

The permanent castle, the ruins of which were sold for demolition during the French Revolution , was built around 1182.

In the 'Château Val Vion', about 20 kilometers behind the front, the British General Douglas Haig had his headquarters in 1916 during the Battle of the Somme .

Attractions
