Abbey and church

Berteaucourt-les-Dames ( Picard : Berthecourt-attachés-Daŋmes ) is a northern French municipality with 1162 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the department of Somme in the region of Hauts-de-France . The municipality is located in the arrondissement of Amiens and belongs to the canton of Flixecourt .

Berteaucourt-les-Dames is located around 4.5 kilometers southeast of Domart-en-Ponthieu in the Nièvre valley .

history

The Benedictine Abbey, which was dissolved in 1790 and under whose jurisdiction the village stood, was founded in 1094/95 by Walter von Pontoise . The Romanesque abbey church became a parish church after the French Revolution ; a part was broken off at the beginning of the 19th century. Around 1870 it was restored and partially reconstructed by the architect Edmond Duthoit .
