Saint-Sauflieu ( Picard : Saint-Souillu) is a northern French municipality with 995 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the department of Somme in the region of Hauts-de-France . The municipality is located in the arrondissement of Amiens , is part of the Communauté d'agglomération Amiens Métropole and belongs to the canton of Ailly-sur-Noye .
geography
The municipality is located between the Noye and Selle rivers on the edge of the plateau in the south of Amiens on the former Route nationale 1 , around 14 kilometers south of Amiens; their municipal area extends to the west beyond the A16 autoroute . A section of the road system known as Chaussée Brunehaut that connected Amiens with Beauvais runs through the municipality .
history
Traces of Gallo-Roman settlement were found in Saint-Sauflieu during aerial surveys . The place name was associated with the name Saxonum Locus. In the early modern period, the village was the largest in the south of Amiens. In the middle of the 18th century the ironmongery peddler was on a large scale. After the French Revolution , Saint-Sauflieu was briefly the seat of a canton. The highest level was reached in 1836 with 1,600 inhabitants. Most of the inhabitants worked in the Amiens textile industry. A brick factory was built in the north of the community.
