The Saint-Germain Church |
Saint-Germain-sur-Bresle ( Picard : Saint-Gérmain-su-Brele ) is a northern French municipality with 206 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the department of Somme in the region of Hauts-de-France . The municipality is located in the Arrondissement of Amiens and is part of the Communauté de communes Somme Sud-Ouest and the canton of Poix-de-Picardie .
geography
The municipality is located on the right (east) bank of the Bresle , opposite Vieux Rouen-sur-Bresle in the neighboring Seine-Maritime department , with which it is connected by a bridge. The railway line that connects Aumale with Blangy-sur-Bresle and Le Tréport runs on the left bank of the Bresle . Saint-Germain includes the formerly independent municipality of Guémicourt in the south and the hamlet of Brétitzel between the town and Guémicourt and a factory south of the neighboring municipality of Neuville-Coppegeulle on the other side of the D1015 departmental road.
history
The community name goes back to St. Germain the Scots, a missionary from the 5th century, who is said to have suffered martyrdom here (festival on May 2nd).
