history

The place is said to have been founded as a permanent house by Bernard, Lord of Saint-Valéry, around the year 1174 and derives its name from him. In 1160 the Bishop of Amiens gave the order to build a church, which was replaced by a new building in 1886. In 1247 Count Jean de Dreux inherited the rule; he issued a municipal code, which in 1397 by King Charles VI. has been confirmed. In 1514, Louis XII. four fairs.

In 1874 a factory for mother-of-pearl buttons was set up, which still exists, but now uses different material.

During the German withdrawal in August 1944, six residents were shot (two memorial plaques).

On January 1, 1985, the former municipality of Vacquerie merged with Bernaville.
