geography

The community, traversed by two dry valleys, is located on the Vimeu plateau around ten kilometers south-east of Oisemont . The hamlet of La Pannetière with a brick factory belongs to the municipality.

Toponymy and History

The parish name is a disfigurement of the name of the parish saint and parish patron Saint-Mendé (Saint-Mesnelé; Meneleus).

The municipality was already inhabited in Gallic times. Before 1179 there was a commander of the Order of St. John . In the Hundred Years' War Saint-Maulvis was burned. Local customary law was established in 1507. In 1540 Florimond de Biencourt had a castle built, which no longer exists. During the French Revolution , the domains of the Coming and the Seigneurie were divided up and sold.
