Hangest-sur-Somme ( Picard : hange-su-sonme ) is a northern French municipality with 775 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the department of Somme in the region of Hauts-de-France . The municipality is located in the arrondissement of Amiens , is part of the Communauté de communes Nièvre et Somme and belongs to the canton of Ailly-sur-Somme .

geography

Hangest is left bank of the canalized Somme at the mouth of the river Saint-Landon opposite Bourdon about seven kilometers west-northwest of Picquigny on the railway line from Amiens to Abbeville , which has a station here. Hangest is connected to Bourdon by a bridge.

history

On June 5, 1940, a massacre of around 50 black soldiers of the Tirailleurs Sénégalais took place in Hangest, who surrendered after heavy resistance. Members of the 7th Panzer Division (Wehrmacht) were probably responsible for the shooting of the defenseless prisoners of war .
