Le Hamel ( Picard : L'Hami) is a northern French municipality with 501 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the department of Somme in the region of Hauts-de-France . The municipality is located in the arrondissement of Amiens and in the canton of Corbie and is part of the Communauté de communes du Val de Somme .

The municipality is slightly elevated on the left bank of the Somme opposite the municipality of Sailly-le-Sec on the D71 departmental roads about eight kilometers east of Corbie . The municipality extends in the south to the Départementstraße D1029 (formerly Route nationale 29 ). Le Hamel is part of the historic Santerre . Hamel includes the Ferme de la Couture and the hamlet of Bouzencort in the Somme valley.

history

Le Hamel is mentioned in 1184 as belonging to the Corbie Abbey . In 1636, Le Hamel was devastated by Spanish troops during the siege of Corbie. The Battle of Hamel took place here on July 4, 1918 .
