Quesnoy-sur-Airaines is a French municipality with 441 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the department of Somme in the region of Hauts-de-France . It belongs to the arrondissement of Amiens and the canton of Ailly-sur-Somme .
geography
Quesnoy-sur-Airaines is located at the height between the rivers Airaines and Saint-Landon, about 3.5 kilometers east of Airaines and ten kilometers north of Molliens-Dreuil .
Toponymy and History
The place name is derived from the Romanesque name of the oak.
Traces of Roman and Merovingian settlements have been found in Quesnoy .
The castle, defended by 40 armed men, was conquered by the English and Burgundians under Jean de Luxembourg in 1422; the castle was subsequently destroyed. It was rebuilt around 1680 under the direction of François le Roy de Valanglart. Around 1696 the corps de logis was added. In 1738 the stables were built and an ice cellar was added.
During the Second World War , around 50 Senegalese riflemen from the colonial troops were massacred on June 8, 1950.

There are controlled designations of origin (AOC) for lamb (Prés-salés de la baie de Somme) in the municipality . The lambs graze in the salty meadows of the Somme Bay .
