Ailly-sur-Somme is a northern French municipality with 2967 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the department of Somme in the region of Hauts-de-France . The municipality is located in the arrondissement of Amiens , is part of the Communauté de communes Nièvre et Somme and belongs to the canton of Ailly-sur-Somme .
geography
The community, which has grown strongly since the second half of the 19th century, is located on the left (southern) bank of the Somme around 7.5 kilometers northwest of Amiens and around 4.5 kilometers southwest of Picquigny . The main traffic route of the municipality is the departmental road D1235, to the south the D97 branches off to Bovelles . The Paris - Boulogne-sur-Mer railway runs parallel to the D1235 along the Somme, which is accompanied by ponds. To the south, the municipality includes the Bois d'Ailly forest and extends to the outskirts of Ferrières . There are two isolated farms here (Ferme d'Anjou and Ferme du Toulay). The industrial and residential development extends parallel to the river.
history
In 1843 a linen mill was opened on the banks of the Somme, the director of which was the Scot James Drummond Carmichaël. In 1906 there was a serious railway accident.
