The military cemetery

Ribemont-sur-Ancre ( Picard : Ribemont-su-Inke) is a northern French municipality with 679 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the department of Somme in the region of Hauts-de-France . The municipality is located in the canton of Corbie and is part of the Communauté de communes du Val de Somme .

geography

The community is located about eight kilometers southwest of Albert at the intersection of the D521, D452 and D119 département roads. The southern boundary is largely formed by the marshland floodplain of the Ancre , the northern part of the municipality is crossed by the D929 departmental road. The Paris – Lille line with the Méricourt-Ribemont station runs mainly in the neighboring municipality of Méricourt-l'Abbé . The municipality includes the districts of Le Petit Ribemont and the farms of Saint-Laurent - Ferme d'en Haut and Ferme du Bas .

history

On the right bank of the Ancre there was a Gallo-Roman cult site Sanctuaire de Ribemont-sur-Ancre, discovered by aerial archeology in 1962 and excavated since 1966, with a temple , a theater and thermal baths that go back to an earlier site of the Belgians .

Until the French Revolution , Ribemont was under the rule of the Lords of Heilly .

The community received the Croix de guerre 1914-1918 as an award .
