history
In 1185, Bernard de Saint-Valéry was lord of the place. In 1199, Bernard de Gorges donated a third of the tithe income to the monks of Épécamps , whose priory owned numerous estates in Gorges.
The allied landing site Gorges, which is occasionally associated with the community, is likely to be assigned to another Gorges (near Carentan in the south of the Cotentin peninsula ).
