Ivaylovgrad , also Ivaylovgrad ( Bulgarian Ивайловград , Turkish Ortaköy ) is a city and the administrative seat of a municipality of the same name in southern Bulgaria not far from the Greek border. The name of the city is derived from the Bulgarian words Iwajlo ( Tsar Iwajlo ) and grad for city ; so it means Iwajlo's city .
geography
The city of Ivaylovgrad is located in the eastern foothills of the Rhodope Mountains at the transition to the Thracian plain . The Arda and Erythropotamos rivers flow near the city . On the Arda River, not far from Ivaylovgrad, there is the Ivaylovgrad dam with the associated Ivaylovgrad reservoir .
The municipality of Ivaylovgrad borders in the north on the municipalities of Ljubimez and Madscharowo , in the west on the municipality of Krumowgrad in Kardzhali Oblast and in the east and south on the Greek municipality of Orfeas .
