Herbert Maeder
Herbert Maeder (actually Mäder ; born February 3, 1930 in Rorschach ; † January 23, 2017 in Rehetobel ; resident in Galgenen ) was a Swiss photographer , photojournalist and politician .
Life
The son of a chemist grew up in Wil and attended high school in Schwyz . From 1948 to 1952 he made a druggist teach . He then completed the photography class at the Vevey School of Applied Arts in 1952 . Since 1953 Maeder worked as a freelance photographer and photo journalist. He was interested in the country and its people. He worked for numerous newspapers and magazines. He edited many photo books, v. a. over areas of eastern Switzerland , but also over Afghanistan . His works have been shown at numerous exhibitions; the St. Gallen Cantonal Library and the St. Gallen Art Association showed a retrospective of Maeder's work in 1991.
From 1983 to 1995 Maeder was a non-party member of the National Council. He joined the parliamentary group of the Landesring and campaigned primarily for landscape protection (against the Rothenthurm arsenal and the Greina reservoir project ).
Maeder lived in Rehetobel and was married for the second time.
