Glenn Yarbrough
Glenn Yarbrough (born January 12, 1930 in Milwaukee , Wisconsin , † August 11, 2016 in Nashville , Tennessee ) was an American singer and guitarist .
Life
Yarbrough's first recording was the 1951 single Follow the Drinking Gourd / The Reaper's Ghost . After he had already become known as a solo singer, he founded the band The Limeliters with Louis Gottlieb and Alex Hassilev in 1959 , with which he was particularly successful in the early 1960s. Yarbrough was the band's tenor singer and guitarist .
After this time he published again under his own name; He was best known with the title Baby The Rain Must Fall (US hit at number 12, 1965).
Yarbrough was also in the original English-language versions of the animated films The Hobbit (1977) and The Return of the King (1980, both after JRR Tolkien ) produced by Arthur Rankin Jr. and Jules Bass ; Among other things, he sang the songs The Road Goes Ever On and Frodo of the Nine Fingers. When he was more than 75 years old, he was touring the United States with the Havenstock River Band.
In his spare time, Yarbrough was an avid sailor and has covered more than 65,000 nautical miles at sea.
