Cedric Baxter

Cedric Baxter (* 1930 in Rangoon ) is an Australian painter and graphic artist.

biography

Baxter was born to British parents in Burma (now Myanmar ) and immigrated to Australia with his parents in 1947. Due to the educational system of the British Empire in India and Burma, it was possible for him to begin an early academic education with his Senior Cambridge Certificate , which he passed in 1945 . From 1949 to 1951 he did an internship in the field of graphics at the Australian Journalists' Association and learned the fine arts on an autodidactic basis . Also from 1949 he started as an intern at the West Australian Newspapers and worked his way up to the highest level of creative artist and cartoonist . He also worked for the Sunday Independent from 1949, where he was art director , cartoonist and art critic . In 1962 he designed the official advertising poster for the British Empire and Commonwealth Games in Perth . In 1968 he gave up his employment with the West Australian Newspapers and in 1971 with the Sunday Independent again and in 1972, after receiving his teaching certificate at Perth Technical College, he accepted the position as Lecturer A ( junior professor ) for drawing, design and illustration, which he took up 1984 held. In the meantime, he took on Australian citizenship in 1974. In 1975 he received his degree in graphic design from Perth Technical College . In 1984 he moved to Forrestfield Tech , where he was assistant professor of fine arts and deputy director until 1990, before moving to Technical and Further Education (TAFE) Midland as Lecturer A for arts and design , where he was until his retirement from the public service was active in 1996.

Baxter has shown his work in numerous group and solo exhibitions, mainly in West Australia, and has received several awards.
