Walkley Award

The Walkley Award is an annual Australian journalism award . The winners will be chosen by an independent panel of journalists and photographers. The Walkley Award is seen as the Australian equivalent of the Pulitzer Prize .

history

The award was launched in 1956 by Sir William Gaston Walkley, an Australian businessman. The prize, which initially consisted of only five categories, was personally supervised by Walkley during his lifetime. In 2000 the Walkley Foundation took over the chairmanship.
