Hans-Martin Linde (born May 24, 1930 in Werne ) is one of the most important German recorder virtuosos of the 20th century . He has lived in Basel ( Switzerland ) since 1957 .

Linde has shaped the playing of the recorder and traverso in a new way. As a soloist and chamber musician, he has performed worldwide and made many records and CDs, including numerous recordings with the Linde Consort.

Linde can also look back on a rich activity as a conductor . He worked with well-known orchestras, choirs and for the opera. From 1984 to 2000 he was the main conductor of the Cappella Coloniensis of the WDR Cologne, which became a model for other baroque orchestras. He then worked several times as a conductor at the Innsbruck Festival of Early Music .

His compositional work includes chamber music, often with recorder or flute, as well as songs, choral works and orchestral music. In Linde's works one encounters new compositional structures and avant-garde playing techniques. In doing so, however, his language retains its proximity to tonality and traditional forms.

Linde has taught at the Basel Music Academy for many years. From 1957 he taught historical flute instruments and ensembles at their Schola Cantorum Basiliensis . He then took over the management of the conservatory (today the music college). From 1979 he built up a class for choir conducting, which he supervised until 1995. He is still associated with the academy as a guest lecturer and examination expert.
