Act

In May 2007, Pujats described homosexuality as a “complete derailment in the field of sexuality” and as an “unnatural form of prostitution” in an open letter . In an interview in March 2009 he stated that homosexuality is not a sexual orientation , but a perversion , an acquired vice , an addiction such as drug abuse or alcoholism , which is why homosexuals cannot invoke human rights . “Anyone who is inclined to vice must be called to discipline and treated.” When one thinks of same-sex sex, it is difficult to imagine a happy life. Regarding the demand for recognition of same-sex partnerships, Pujats said “that although hell is the place of limitless suffering, there is still no lack of aspirants who absolutely want to go to hell.” He is of the opinion that a small group of people who are dependent on subordinates Homosexuals could easily achieve their goal, and compared that to the system in the USSR . In his open letter, Pujats also stated that EU membership had "sexualized" society and that homosexuals were now taking advantage of that. “They attack us with their perversions,” said Pujats, who called homosexuals “sexually insane people”.

In the same year, Pujats called on people to take to the streets against the CSD planned in Riga . "If 1,000 sexually crazy people hold their Pride on the market square, at least 40,000 to 50,000 people should march against it." The CSD could then take place behind bars and under police protection and the participants were evacuated by buses at the end. In March 2009 the cardinal said: “Of course the Church condemns the use of force, but it cannot be held responsible for what happens in the streets when the parade participants meet opponents. Maintaining order in the streets is one of the responsibilities of the police. "

Jānis Pujats is one of the signatories of a multilingual appeal by Carlo Maria Viganò on May 7th, 2020 with the Latin title “Veritas liberabit vos!” ( The truth will set you free , according to Jn 8.32  EU ), which is published on the internet portal kathisch.de of the German Bishops' Conference as a “conglomerate of conspiracy myths and pseudoscience”. It complains that under the pretext of the COVID-19 pandemic, the rights and fundamental freedoms of many citizens are "disproportionately and unjustifiably restricted"; Public health should not become an alibi "to free civil authorities from their duty to act wisely for the common good". The text speaks of growing doubts about the actual risk of infection by the coronavirus and the reporting of the pandemic is referred to as " alarmism ". The containment measures taken fostered the interference of "foreign powers" with serious social and political consequences, according to the text signed by Catholic clergy, journalists, doctors and lawyers. There are forces “interested in creating panic in the population” and promoting “the isolation of individuals” in order to be able to better manipulate and control them. ”This is“ the disturbing prelude to the creation of a world government that beyond any control ”. The text was described by various media and church representatives as absurd and the theses expressed as conspiracy theories .
