The Diocese of Jelgava ( Latin Dioecesis Ielgavensis , Latvian Jelgavas diecēze ) is a Roman Catholic diocese based in Jelgava ( Mitau ) in Latvia . Edvards Pavlovskis has been the bishop since July 2011 .
history
The diocese of Jelgava was established on December 2, 1995 and emerged territorially from the neighboring diocese of Liepāja to the west . Its territory largely covers the Latvian region of Zemgale , including Upper Latvia . As a suffragan, it is subordinate to the Archdiocese of Riga and is one of the three Roman Catholic dioceses in Latvia.
