Elisabeth Altmann-Gottheiner (born March 26, 1874 in Berlin ; † October 21, 1930 in Mannheim ) was one of the first German university teachers and active as a women's rights activist.

Life

Elisabeth Gottheiner studied in London and Berlin . In 1902 the doctorate in Zurich followed with the investigation of studies on the Wuppertal textile industry and its workers in the last 20 years .

In 1908 she was the first female lecturer at the Mannheim Commercial College . From 1912 she published the yearbook of the women's movement . In 1921 she published Die Berufsaussichten der Deutschen Akademikerinnen (Halle / Saale). In 1925 she was awarded the title of full professor .

Elisabeth Gottheiner married the economist Samuel Paul Altmann (1878–1933) in 1906 .

Elisabeth Altmann Gottheiner Prize

The University of Mannheim has been awarding the Elisabeth Altmann Gottheiner Prize annually since 1996, donated by the Senate Commission to promote the equal development of women in studies, research and teaching. The purpose of the foundation is: To award scientific work to students of all disciplines (diploma, master’s, master’s, state examination theses) at the University of Mannheim in the field of women's and gender studies.
