Robert Charles Francis (born February 26, 1930 in Glendale , California , † July 31, 1955 in Burbank , California) was an American actor .

Life

Robert Francis' short career spanned only four feature films. At 25 he was an aspiring young actor who in 1954 in the classic war film The Caine Was Her Destiny was able to convince Keith as a young officer alongside stars such as Humphrey Bogart , José Ferrer , Van Johnson and Fred MacMurray . In his third feature film, the western They rode west , he was cast in the lead role. He also played members of the military in his two other films.

With his appearance and his sportiness, Robert Francis was a typical representative of the young aspiring man in the 1950s and thus on the way to becoming a movie star. But on July 31, 1955, he was killed in an airplane accident. Francis and a friend took off in a private plane from Hollywood Burbank Airport in Burbank. The machine, which belonged to the Australian golfer Joe Kirkwood junior and was controlled by Francis himself, suddenly lost engine power shortly after taking off and crashed into an abandoned parking lot. Francis and his friend did not survive the crash. Francis was originally scheduled for a role in the western My Will is Law , which went to Don Dubbins after his death .
