Zhang Deying

Zhang Deying - also Chang Te-ying (born July 1, 1953 in Shanghai , People's Republic of China ) is a Chinese table tennis player . In the late 1970s and early 1980s she won five titles at world championships.

Career

Zhang Deying played penholder style. At the national Chinese championships in 1977 she came third.

In 1977 , 1979 and 1981 she was nominated for participation in world championships. In all three tournaments she won the title with the Chinese team and reached the semi-finals in the singles. In 1979 she became world champion in doubles with Zhang Li . Two years later, she defended the title with Cao Yanhua .

She was also successful several times at the Asian Championships . In 1976 she reached the final in singles, doubles (with Zhang Li) and with the team. In 1978 and 1980 she won the title with the team. In 1980 she also won doubles (with Liu Yang) and mixed (with Xie Saike ).

In 1981 she ended her career as a competitive athlete. She lived in the USA from 1983 to 1997, after which she returned to Shanghai.

In the ITTF world rankings , Zhang Deying was third from 1977 to 1981, with the exception of January 1979 when she slipped to fourth. In 2010 she was inducted into the ITTF Hall of Fame .

Private

Zhang Deying studied at Heiking Kiang University and later worked as a teacher.
