Tomi Ōkawa

Tomi Ōkawa ( Japanese 大川 と み , Ōkawa Tomi , married Tomi Okada ( 岡田 と み , Okada Tomi ); born February 26, 1933 in Mitsukaidō (today: Jōsō ), Ibaraki Prefecture ) is a former Japanese table tennis player . At the table tennis world championship in 1956 , she became the first Japanese woman to win the women's singles title. She won another two gold medals with the Japanese team. At the Japanese national championships, she was only able to win the women's singles title once (1959), but won five mixed doubles.
