Li Ju ( Chinese 李菊 , Pinyin Lǐ Jú ) (born January 22, 1976 in Nantong ) is a former Chinese table tennis player . She won several titles at world championships , she is Olympic champion in doubles.
Career
Li Ju plays right-handed with the shakehand stick position. She started playing table tennis when she was seven.
Li Ju's greatest international successes occurred between 1995 and 2004. She was nominated eight times for world championships. In 1997 she and her partner Wang Nan reached the final in doubles, in 1999 and 2001 they became world champions. She won gold four times with the Chinese team, namely in 1997, 2000 , 2001 and 2004 .
In the ITTF Pro Tour series, she reached the Grand Finals every time from 1996 to 2000 . In 1996 and 1999 she was second in the individual, in 1997 she won the individual competition. With Wang Nan , she won doubles from 1997 to 1999 three times in a row. In 2000 she qualified for the Summer Olympics . Here she won silver in singles and the gold medal in doubles with Wang Nan.
In 1998/99, Li Ju was signed by the German Bundesliga club TTC Langweid . However, it was only used in three major team fights, namely in a semi-finals and in the two finals. She achieved a score of 3: 3 in the individual.
In the ITTF world rankings , Li Ju was ranked second in 2001.
Li Ju retired in 2005 for health reasons. At this time she was ranked 15th in the world.
