Hong Cha-ok
Hong Cha-ok (born March 10, 1970 in Gunwi County , South Korea ) is a former South Korean table tennis player . She became world champion in team competition in 1991 and bronze medalist at the 1992 Olympics.
Career
Hong Cha-ok achieved first international successes at the Asian Youth Championships. In 1986 she reached the finals in singles, doubles with Hyun Jung-hwa and mixed with Kim Taek-soo . In 1987 she won the singles title.
She took part in the World Championships in 1987 , 1991 and 1993 . She became world champion with the all-Korean women's team in 1991, and was eliminated in the quarter-finals in singles. In 1993 she won bronze with the South Korean women's team.
At the Asian Championships for adults , she won in 1988 and 1990 with the team. In 1990 she reached the semi-finals in doubles and the final in mixed with Kim Taek-soo. Hong Cha-ok qualified twice to compete in the Summer Olympics . In 1988 she only competed in singles, in 1992 only in doubles, where she won bronze with Hyun Jung-hwa .
In 1992 she was ranked 20th in the ITTF world rankings .
