Sven Bärtschi (born October 5, 1992 in Langenthal ) is a Swiss ice hockey player in the position of left winger , who has been under contract with the Vancouver Canucks of the National Hockey League since March 2015 and also for their farm team, the Utica Comets , in the American Hockey League is used.
Career
Bärtschi ventured into North America in 2010 when he signed a contract with the Portland Winterhawks of the Western Hockey League , having been voted seventh in the CHL Import Draft of the same year. In his first season in North America Bärtschi was successful, he scored 34 goals, prepared 51 and came to a total of 85 points at the end of the 2010/11 season. His points were the best among the WHL rookies , which earned him a nomination for the best new professional in the WHL and the award for best rookie in the Western Conference. In the subsequent playoffs, the striker again showed a good performance, because he contributed a lot of offensive strength for the Winterhawks with his ten goals and 17 assists in 21 games. Bärtschi took part in the CHL Top Prospects Game as one of four Winter Hawks and played for Team Orr . In the 2011 NHL Entry Draft , Bärtschi was voted 13th by the Calgary Flames.
On July 5, 2011, Bärtschi signed a three-year entry - level contract with the Calgary Flames , which will only become active with the final move to the franchise. The 2011/12 season the striker continued to spend mainly with the Portland Winterhawks in the Western Hockey League, but made his debut during the season, on March 9, 2012, for the Calgary Flames in the National Hockey League . In the game against the Winnipeg Jets , the Swiss player stood on the ice for more than nine minutes, remained pointless and ended the encounter with a balanced plus / minus balance. His first goal in the NHL reached Bärtschi in the next game on March 11, 2012 against the Minnesota Wild , which the Flames won 4-3. Bärtschi scored his second goal in the third game on March 13, 2012 against the San Jose Sharks .
After three years in the organization of the Calgary Flames, which he had mainly spent in the AHL, he moved to the Vancouver Canucks in March 2015 , which in return transferred a second-round vote for the 2015 NHL Entry Draft to Calgary. The Canucks initially gave the Swiss to the Utica Comets , their AHL farm team , but he subsequently established himself in Vancouver's NHL squad.
International
Sven Bärtschi made his debut in the Swiss national team in 2009 at the U18 Junior World Championship . At the U20 Junior World Championship in 2011 he played for the Swiss team alongside his teammate from Portland, Nino Niederreiter . In the senior sector, he made his debut at the 2014 World Cup , but was only used once.
