Jacob Templar
Jacob Templar (born October 30, 1992 in Wagga Wagga ) is an Australian American football player in the position of punter who has been part of the Hildesheim Invaders team in the German Football League (GFL) since May 2019 .
Life
Origin and private life
Templar grew up in Brisbane , the capital of the state of Queensland , and attended Victoria Point High School there. After graduating from school, he first worked as a salesman in a car dealership . Since autumn 2019 he has been doing an internship in a company for orthopedic technology in Hildesheim and at the same time acquired CEFR certificates for German as a second language in order to be able to begin dual training as an orthopedic technology mechanic from August 2020 . In the course of the COVID-19 pandemic , however, the internship was ended by the employer in spring 2020.
On his YouTube channel Punting For The People , he has been giving an insight into his everyday sporting and private life as a foreign American football player in Germany since February 9, 2018 . He is a fan of the NFL team Miami Dolphins and describes Pat McAfee as his sporting role model. He played as a punter for the Indianapolis Colts between 2009 and 2016 and was elected to the Pro Bowl twice during his career .
Athletic career
Templar has played Australian football since childhood , but switched to American football in 2014 following an ankle injury . He enrolled at Golden West College - a community college in California Huntington Beach - and hoped for an athletic scholarship for the NCAA Division I . However, due to formal irregularities in the transfer, it was not taken into account. He then moved back to his hometown.
He then played very successfully in 2014 and 2015 as a wide receiver , safety and punter in Brisbane for the Bayside Ravens, who compete in the amateur league Gridiron Queensland. In these two seasons he caught passes for a total of over 2000 yards . In addition, he set a club record with 21 captured touchdowns in one season. The Prokick Australia Punting Academy then named him a potential candidate for the NCAA Division I. In spring 2015, he was included in the provisional 75-man squad of the Australian national team for the World Cup held in the United States in July of the same year ; but ultimately canceled before the tournament. In the following season, 2016, he played for Griffith University Thunder - a team that had only recently been founded at the Brisbane-based university of the same name .
On February 11, 2017, the Dresden Monarchs announced the commitment of Templar and he was able to celebrate his debut in the GFL at the start of the season on May 6 at the home game against the Hildesheim Invaders . At the end of the 2017 season , he and his team reached the quarter-finals of the play-offs . The following season of 2018 was even more successful with the move into the play-off semi-finals. For the 2019 season Templar moved to the Hildesheim Invaders. With 1831 punting yards , he finished second in the league and his average punting distance of 40.7 yards was even the best. So he played a key role in ensuring that the Invaders reached the play-off quarter-finals.
