The Hildesheim Invaders are a German American football team.

history

The Invaders were founded in 1983 . The founders are Dagmar Okunick, Ralf Okunick, Herbert Kleinert, Jens Magdanz, Uwe Karp, Jürgen Karp and Torsten Karp. In 1985 the club joined the VfV Hildesheim as a department . In the 1986 season, the Invaders celebrated their first major success by winning the title in the 2nd division north. In the final of the Silver Bowl , the championship final of all second leagues, however, the Hildesheimers lost against the Munich Rangers with 21:25. The Invaders waived the possible promotion to the 1st Bundesliga for economic reasons.

In 1989 the championship of the 2nd League North succeeded again and this time the Invaders rose. After two seasons in the highest German football league, the Invaders were relegated.

In 1994, due to a league reform, they were relegated to the regional league. There the championship and the return to the 2nd league, where the Invaders held until 2000, was achieved. Due to the insolvency of Hildesheim Invaders Marketing GmbH, ongoing obligations could no longer be met in the 2000 season, so that a game had to be canceled. The American Football Association Germany then decided to move the Hildesheim Invaders back to the top division.

In the 2001 season followed a new beginning in the league, which was completed with the championship and the regional league promotion. In terms of sport, the Invaders reached the regional league in 2002, but the change of club to Eintracht Hildesheim brought the forced relegation by two classes into the association league. With the association league championship and another league reform, the Invaders skipped a class and were able to compete in the regional league again in 2005.

After a further relegation in 2005 and direct re-promotion, the Invaders reached the championship in the Regionalliga Nord in the 2008 season and thus the relegation for promotion to GFL 2 . There the Paderborn Dolphins could be defeated 7-0 in Paderborn and 13:10 at home. This means that the Invaders were promoted to the 2nd Football Bundesliga (GFL2) again in line with their 25th anniversary.

In the 2009 season, the Invaders under the direction of head coach Winston Huggins could only win two games in the GFL2 and were therefore relegated to the regional league. After a mixed season in 2010 Christian Kling took over the post of head coach from Winston Huggins for the regional league season 2011. In a dramatic decider for promotion to the GFL2, the Invaders were defeated by the Osnabrück Tigers, but ultimately rose to the second highest division at the green table . In 2012, he was relegated to the regional league.

In the 2013 season, the Invaders should remain undefeated (11 wins, 1 draw) and thus secured the championship of the Regionalliga Nord and the associated promotion to the GFL2. In the following season of 2014, the Invaders managed to secure relegation in GFL2 North and to drop their reputation as an elevator team. They took 5th place at the end of the season. As a small sensation, shortly after the end of the season, the engagement of Joe Roman as the new head coach was announced.

In the 2015 season, the championship in the GFL2 North was secured under the leadership of Joe Roman . The Hildesheim Invaders were promoted to GFL Nord for the first time since 1991.

For the first home game of the 2016 GFL season against the Lower Saxon neighbor New Yorker Lions from Braunschweig, they moved to the larger Friedrich-Ebert-Stadion and set a new attendance record with 3484 spectators. The game was lost, however, with 7:52. The Hildesheimers finished their return to the top division in Germany on a solid 5th place.

The second year in the GFL was less successful than the year before, but the Hildesheimers, who dismissed their head coach Joe Roman and offensive coordinator Alex Burdette two game days before the end, managed to secure relegation to the penultimate place in the table.

For the 2018 season, the Invaders hired their former quarterback Matt LeFever as head coach and offensive coordinator, as well as the American Dwight Pattrick, who should lead the defensive. In addition, at the beginning of 2018 they left the parent club Eintracht Hildesheim and formed the newly founded Hildesheim Invaders eV Dwight Pattrick was replaced by the former head coach Winston Huggins.

The Hildesheimers caused a stir with a number of well-known new signings at the end of 2018, when it was announced that in addition to Casey Therriault u. a. also to have signed Nathaniel Morris and Anthony Dablé-Wolf. Also in the 2019 season, Matt LeFever and Winston Huggins were initially on the sidelines. At the beginning of September 2019, LeFever and his staff were dismissed because the team did not meet the expectations of the club's management. For the 2020 season, with Shuan Fatah as head coach and Lee Rowland as attack coordinator, the sporting leadership was handed over to a team that had previously worked successfully for the Swarco Raiders Tirol for years.

Teams

In addition to two men's teams, there is a youth team that plays in the 1st youth league North and a flag football youth, which is also involved in the league. There has been a B-tackle team since 2012, and seasonal operations began in 2013. The Invaders senior flag team plays in the Flag Football Bundesliga. There are also four cheerleading teams.
