In 2004, 2005, 2008 and 2014 the team managed the “perfect season”, that is, unbeaten seasons.

The home games take place during the football season from April to September in the Hermann Löns Stadium in Neuhaus Castle. An average of 800 to 1000 viewers see the games. The 2014 relegation game to the 2nd Bundesliga of the German Football League saw 1,800 spectators.

Teams / teams

Men's team

The men's team of the Dolphins plays in the German Football League 2 . A squad of 60 players with a ten-person supervisor and coaching staff take care of the men's team. Carsten Weber is the Dolphins' head coach for the 2016 GFL2 North season.

Youth teams

Three youth teams with more than 150 active players wear the Dolphins' shirts every season. The team is represented in the U19, U16 and U13 leagues. The U19 will play in the Bundesliga for the first time in 2016, the GFLJ. The U16 plays in the 11th tackle of this year's top division of this age group. The U13 continues to play in the 5 tackle and tries to build on the successes from last year and to establish themselves at the top. The Dolphins youth department is one of the largest youth departments in American football . Dolphins players regularly take part in competitions such as the GreenMachine.

cheerleader

The cheerleaders of the Dolphins are the "Mermaids". In the last few years the mermaids have been very popular, both among the juniors - the young women from the age of twelve - as well as among the youngest - the "Sea Stars". As an independent competitive sport with championships on a national and international stage, cheerleading is practiced for organized squads in Paderborn. The Dolphins cheerleaders are not only active during the teams' championship games, but also appear at friendly clubs and groups at competitions and events.

history

1991

The Paderborn American Football story started in 1991 at the University of Paderborn . Following the example of the American college, American football was to become a permanent institution in Paderborn. That is why it was decided in the same year to build an independent team in addition to the university team. It started as a subdivision of the Paderborn Athletics Club . With Kim Mosby, an experienced player joined the team, who was to lead the sporting fortunes of the Dolphins as a player and coach for the next few years. Because of his suggestion, the name Dolphins was also adopted for the team. In the first year of the club, five friendlies were played, of which three games were won.

1992

The Dolphins founded an independent association that was founded on January 11, 1992. The game operation took place within the framework of the Association League NRW. Furthermore, the first cheerleading group, the Dolphins, was formed.

The league participation was completed with the fifth place in the table, after four wins in 10 games and you reached the second round in the NRW Cup.

1994

With the 1st place in 1993 in the association league followed in 1994 participation in the regional league. André Hölscher left the board, but Uta Blanke took over the office of managing director again and Klaus Hecker joined the board as treasurer. Steve McKnight joined the coaching division, while Alfred P. Dearbone left the club.

The cheerleaders were completely rebuilt. Nine girls between the ages of 12 and 19 formed the Dolphettes.

In the NRW Cup, the team reached the semi-finals. There they were eliminated against the Troisdorf Jets (2nd Bundesliga) at 12:30.

In the last game of the season, the Bonn Gamecocks were beaten 19:17 seconds before the end of the game and the Dolphins were again league champions. By winning the regional league season, the team had the opportunity to play in a relegation game against Remscheid Bergisch Löwen for a place in the newly designed 2nd Bundesliga. However, the Remscheid team was able to clearly win this game due to their greater experience and routine.

1995

Due to a league reform, the Paderborn Dolphins competed in the regional league again, despite the championship title of the previous year. Led by the coaches Kim Mosby, Steve McKnight and Nick Stoupides it was possible to bring the championship of the regional league to Pader again. 11 out of 12 league games were won. At the end of the season, the team won the undefeated title at the Salt City Bowl in Schwäbisch Hall. For the first time this year, the youth team also took part in the league. The team's coach at the time was Matthias Filusch. Of eight games, however, only 1 game was won.

The cheerleaders achieved a 6th place when they took part in the NRW championships. They were still trained by Mirja Schmidt.

1996

The first year in the 2nd Bundesliga: The coaching staff was expanded and consisted of Kim Mosby, Steve McKnight, Nick Stoupides and Olaf Westermann. The best-known newcomer this year and the crowd favorite for the next few years was John Sikora (Defense Line). Further newcomers came from Bielefeld and Kassel. Two preparation games against the Bundesliga clubs Braunschweig Lions and Düsseldorf Panther were used to determine the position. While the game against the Panthers went quite well with 14:30, they lost against the Lions with 8:56. Of twelve league games, only three could be won, plus a draw. The bad season performance continued at the Salt City Bowl and this time only the last place jumped out. At the end of the season, the club and longtime coach Kim Mosby separated.

As a further expansion of the football program, the women's team, the Paderborn Lady Dolphins, participated as a syndicate with the Mülheim Shamrocks in the league operations of the North Women's Bundesliga. The Lady Dolphins were trained by Charalabos Koutroulis and Hendrik Metzger. The team reached the play-offs and had to surrender to the southern champions (Nürnberg Hurricanes) in the quarterfinals.

1997

In the second year of the 2nd Bundesliga, the Paderborn Dolphins found a major sponsor who enabled the team to strengthen the coach and player area. With Joel Soeldinger (Defense Coordinator) and Mike Sullivan (Offense Coordinator), two experienced Americans joined the team. They were supported by Olaf Westermann (Defense Backs) and Steve McKnight (Special Teams). With Bilal Khalil and John Sikora, proven forces came to the team. With the signing of Brad Strohm one of the best US quarterback played for Paderborn. There were also numerous players from Bielefeld, Kassel and Münster.

The season consisted of twelve games, ten of which were won and one ended in a draw. This meant that another title win could be celebrated just before the Berlin Rebels and the Paderborn Dolphins were relegated to the 1st Bundesliga.

There the Paderborn Dolphins competed against the Berlin Adler. While the game in Berlin was lost 28:21, the second leg, in front of more than 3,500 spectators in the Hermann-Löns Stadium , was won 40:21. With that the promotion to the 1st Bundesliga was made. This achievement was honored with the title “Team of the Year” in Paderborn.

The women's team no longer appeared as a syndicate. The squad had become too small for that. Therefore some players accepted the offer of the Hannover Ambassadors and played there this year. The team managed to advance into the final (Ladies Bowl). However, this was then lost to the reigning German champions, the Berlin Adler Girls .

The squad of cheerleaders had also shrunk considerably this year, so that a new structure was carried out and appearances at the Dolphins games were initially not possible.

1998

In the first year of membership in the first division, the coaches Sullivan and Soeldinger could not be kept and Brad Strohm also left the club. Samuel M. Moore (head coach), Sascha Bannura, Kirk Garbutt, Olaf Westermann, Steve McKnight and Matthias Filusch were hired as coaches. The outstanding new signing was u. a. the Swedish receiver Pontus West and the US linebacker Willie Lowery. At the end of the season Brad Strohm came back to the team to replace the not so successful playing quarterback Chad Vogt.

While the two preparatory games against Berlin Magic and Amsterdam Crusaders could still be clearly won 43-0 and 50-0, it quickly became apparent in the league that the 1st Bundesliga is the best league in Europe, and it's not so easy to get into can claim. So only one of the 12 league games was won against the later southern champions Stuttgart Scorpions .

The last place in the table means two games in the relegation. As in the previous year, the Paderborn Dolphins won clearly, this time with 40: 3, but lost the away game (12:21). Overall, it was enough to keep the league.

The women's team was no longer able to recruit enough players so that the chapter on women's football in Paderborn was ended.

1999

The new head coach was Cevin Conrad and the posts of 1st and 2nd chairman were filled with Andreas Forell and Claudia Lübbert. This season the main sponsor dropped out. Then the Paderborn Dolphins lost the right to call themselves Dolphins and had to play as AFC Paderborn. In the end, the money was no longer enough to run the game, so you had to log out of the league.

2000

After the withdrawal from the GFL, he was forced to relegate to the regional league. Many new, inexperienced players had to be integrated into the team by coaches Marc Droste, supported by Dirk Ruloffs (Defense), Robert Michna (Defense Backs) and Oliver Ilskens (Offense Line).

Of the 10 league games, four games were won and in the end the team took fourth place in the table. Volker Mersch (1st chairman), Hans-Jürgen Hüser (2nd chairman), Klaus Hecker (managing director) and Marc Droste (treasurer) were active on the board.

2001

For the club's ten-year anniversary, the men's team returned to the regional league. After the new players had a year of match practice behind them, they managed to increase one place in the table compared to the previous year. The team finished third in the regional league.

2002

The 2002 season brought new, strong opponents such as B. the Düsseldorf Panther (2001 still 3rd in the 1st Bundesliga) as well as the Bochum Cadets and the Troisdorf Jets (last year still in the 2nd Bundesliga). The coaching staff around head coach Marc Droste consisted of Jan Rieke, Olaf Westermann and Matthias Gehrke. Because of the new opponents, it was clear to everyone that this would be a tough year. How hard you saw at the end of the season. The descent was just avoided with 7th place. Game results like 0:65, 7:72, 7:78 and 13:62 showed that the team actually no longer had any regional league strengths.

2003

After a tough regional league year and a few departures that could not be replaced, there weren't enough players left for the new season. No men's team was reported for league operations. Many players then switched to other clubs in order to continue to get match practice and to develop further.

2004

In the next season there was a completely new start for the men's team. Under the new sporting direction with head coach Dirk Ruloffs, offense coach Kofi Adomako and the assistants Matthias Gehrke and Marc Schüle, the team started in the association league. The team ended the season with a perfect season that had never been achieved before and was promoted to the top division. This was honored by around 1000 spectators who came to the Inselbad Stadium for each home game .

2005

The league was divided into two groups of 5 teams each and the season consisted of eight games. All games could be won, again the team managed a perfect season. In half of all games, the opposing team could not score any points. To make the ascent perfect, two more relegation games had to be won against the other league champions, the Düsseldorf Bulldozer. Just like the Paderborn team, the bulldozers had dominated their group. Nevertheless, the Paderborn Dolphins managed to win both games and advance to the Regionalliga undefeated. The team has now been unbeaten in 16 competitive and two friendly matches.

2006

In 2006 the Paderborn Dolphins were back in the regional league. In order to do justice to this new task, the coaching staff was strengthened with Jan Rieke, who could no longer play quarterback for health reasons. Furthermore, seven high achievers from the youth joined the men.

Volker Mersch and Florens Raschke left the board and Markus Bruckmann became the new 1st chairman and Jan Rieke the new 2nd chairman. In terms of sport, the season was a complete success. As a climber, they managed to finish the season in third place, just one point behind the Bochum Cadets.

2007

This season there was a major change in the men's team. 11 departures were offset by 12 newcomers. The coaching staff remained consistently well staffed with Dirk Ruloffs and Kofi Adomako as well as Matthias Gehrke, Marc Droste and Jan Rieke.

As in the previous year, the team managed to leave three other teams behind. This was not enough for 3rd place this year, because this time seven teams were represented in the league and not six teams as in the previous year. In the end it remained in 4th place.

2008

If someone had predicted the final result before the start of the season, it would probably not have been taken seriously. Another big bloodletting was imminent. 12 players left the men's team, 9 joined them. The coaching team was not spared from changes either. Matthias Gehrke took over the position of offense coordinator from Kofi Adomako and Marc Weggen (offense line) as well as Marcus Wilcke (receiver) were added as new coaches.

The goal of the season was simply defined, the Dolphins wanted to do better than last year. With the departure of quarterback Andreas Schäfer, second quarterback Edgar Luttmann, our running backs Ewald Leis and Hendrik Bleier as well as offense line players Marc Weggen and Andreas Feind and other important players, it looked like a difficult task at the beginning.

However, under the leadership of the new team member, US quarterback Kevin McKenna, all three away games and the following home games were won. After 6 games McKenna had to return to his home country. However, the team knew how to seize the opportunity and also won the remaining 4 games. This was the first time she was able to secure a perfect season in the regional league. As champions of the Regionalliga West, they met the Hildesheim Invaders in the relegation for promotion to GFL 2. They were also undefeated champions of the Regionalliga Nord. Two undefeated champions met. In two extremely exciting and close games, the Paderborn Dolphins were defeated by the Hildesheim Invaders and could not be promoted to GFL 2.

2009

After the successful performance last season, the Paderborn Dolphins competed in a completely different Regionalliga NRW. With the Troisdorf Jets, Recklinghausen Chargers and Mönchengladbach Mavericks, 3 teams had strengthened themselves with US players and were therefore considered as candidates for promotion. As usual in the past, there was a great turnover of players. 16 players left, 13 new players were added. The coaching staff experienced an expansion with Matthias Tichy, who ended his active career as a player and took over the support of the defense backs.

A test match against the Münster Mammuts was clearly won at the beginning of the season with 46:06. But the following games quickly showed that the teams were stronger this year than last year. There was only one victory, the remaining nine games were all lost. The key game was the game against the undefeated leaders, the Mavericks, in Mönchengladbach. Three top performers (quarterback Thomas Petersen, running back Daniel Greitens and linebacker Sebastian Heßler) were injured.

At the end of the season they landed on the penultimate place in the table with a balance of 02:18 points. After the season, Dirk Ruloffs, Marc Droste and Marc Weggen announced their resignation as coaches for the Dolphins and Benjamin Jelassi, a long-time high performer, said goodbye.

2010

The 2010 season began with Matthias Gehrke as the new head coach and 6 additional coaches. The squad shrank considerably, as 17 departures faced only 8 newcomers (3 players from their own youth, 3 newcomers and 2 players from Hamm). Six teams were in the league and ten games had to be played. The team left the field as a loser seven times and at the end of the season found themselves on the penultimate place in the table.

2011

The preparations for the new season started promisingly, only six players left the team, but 18 players increased the squad. Among them were Matthew Jackson, James Roe and Sebastian Matei, three Americans and seven players from the Kassel Titans. The post of head coach was also filled, as Matthias Gehrke left his position after the end of the 2010 season. With Dick Bergstrom a new HC from the USA was signed.

Additional coaches were Daniel Greitens and Matthias Filusch in the offense and Matthias Tichy, Andreas Gotzhein and David Schmidtmann in defense. To prepare for the season, two test matches were held, both of which were won. The team went into the new season with a lot of self-confidence and was able to work their way up from 5th place in the previous year to 3rd place. Only the teams from Bonn and Bielefeld proved to be stronger than the Dolphins and took first and second place in the Regionalliga NRW 2011. A total of 7 out of 12 games were won and the TD ratio was again positive at 388: 258.

At the end of the season the club was able to celebrate its 20th anniversary.

2012

Head coach Dick Bergstrom didn't come back; he switched to the GFL2 as offense coordinator. For him, William Miller was hired as head coach and defense coordinator as well as player-coach Evan Gehlert (offense coordinator and quarterback) and Eric Tilson (offense line coach and center). Daniel Greitens and Matthias Filusch continued to work as offense assistants. In defense, William Miller was supported by his assistant Thomas Petersen and returnees Matthias Gehrke.

Darius Voehringer, switched to GFL1. Some former Dolphins players came back from Osnabrück, some players from Kassel also moved to Pader and some players from the U19s moved up to the men's team. After a win against Aachen, the next four games were lost and the team was in a relegation battle. In the second half of the season, however, four more games could be won. As a result, the team achieved a balanced balance (10:10) and secured - as in the previous year - 3rd place in the table.

The newly founded women's team entered the league as the fifth team. A total of 12 players under the leadership of Marc Droste took part in tournaments in the five Tackle League NRW. None of the tournaments could be won and in the end the team had to be withdrawn from the game due to a lack of players.

2013

There were departures from the men's team. Steven Müller did not return and devoted himself to his athletics. Quarterback Viktor Löwen and offensive liner Waldemar Pfaffenrot joined the team from their own youth. A good collaboration continued to develop with the Paderborn UNIcorns. Also this year more players from the ranks of the UNIcorns will join the Paderborn Dolphins.

Head coach was Dick Bergstrom, who returned to Pader. Other coaches were Matthias Gehrke, Jan Rieke, Daniel Greitens, Thomas Petersen, Christopher Stoll and Max Filusch on the sidelines. The sporting success did not materialize, however. Especially the games against the Amboss from Remscheid and the second division experienced Club Essen Assindia Cardinals put the Paderborn in their place. The season ended fourth in the league.

The U14 gave 18 players to the U16, so that at the beginning a manageable squad of 13 players remained. Thanks to the collaboration between head coach Frank Eckert and various schools, the roster was quickly increased. The U14 championship was also brought to Pader.

After an exciting season, the U16 were able to secure the championship on the last day of the match. Due to restructuring in the league, it was the last year for the U14 and U16. These should be on the pitch from 2014 as U15 and U17.
