The Bonn Gamecocks are an American football club from the federal city of Bonn / North Rhine-Westphalia that has played for several years in the German Football League 2 , the second highest German division. The Gamecocks are currently playing in the Regionalliga-West.

history

In 1988 the AFC Bonn Gamecocks 1988 e. V. founded in Bonn. In 1990 the Cocks first took part in league operations in the 2nd Rhineland regional league and rose two years in a row through a perfect season with 12-0 points each in the Regionalliga-West, in which they played in 1992. After relegation and immediate re-promotion, the Cocks remained in the third-highest league in Germany from 1994 to 1998. After relegation to the Oberliga NRW, for which the Gamecocks were listed in 1999, the team disintegrated and initially withdrew from league operations. Instead, the Gamecocks played in what was then the Senior Flag League ( Flag Football ), today's German Flag Football League (DFFL) and became German flag football champions in 2002.

After rebuilding as a tackle team in the Association League NRW in 2003, the Gamecocks rose twice in a row and played in the Regionalliga-West in 2005, in which they were able to reach third place straight away and only missed the play-offs by one place in the table.

In 2006 the Seniors managed the "Perfect Season" and went unbeaten in the relegation for promotion to the 2nd Bundesliga . The relegation games against the Redcocks from Frankfurt (Oder) were won, but the Gamecocks refrained from applying for a license for the 2nd Bundesliga.

In 2007, the Gamecocks were able to achieve second place in the Regionalliga-West and thus qualify for the promotion relegation against the champions of the Regionalliga-East, the Leipzig Lions. With a 42:26 win in Bonn and a narrow 22:24 away win, the Gamecocks were able to qualify for the 2nd Bundesliga North again. After a consultation between the team and the board, it was decided to apply for a license for the 2nd Bundesliga.

The 2008 season was less successful in terms of sport, because after the 12th match day, the sporting relegation to the Regionalliga NRW was certain. However, since the Frankfurt Red Cocks did not exercise their right of promotion to GFL2, the Gamecocks held the class as successors.

Their second season in GFL2 2009, the Gamecocks finished 6th in the table.
