The 2015 season of the German Football League 2 was the 34th season of the GFL 2, the second highest division of American football in Germany.

In the north group, the Elmshorn Fighting Pirates were actually relegated as the 8th of the 2014 season. In the replacement procedure, however, the place that had become free through the promotion of the Hamburg Huskies to the GFL was awarded to them. In the relegation games for promotion from the regional leagues, the Paderborn Dolphins (1st RL West) prevailed against the Potsdam Royals (1st RL North). The Osnabrück Tigers (1st RL West) had actually qualified for the GFL 2 and also won the relegation games. However, they did not subsequently apply for a license. Therefore it was decided that the Potsdam Royals would get the free place in GFL 2 Nord.

In the group south, the Frankfurt Pirates were relegated as the 8th of the 2014 season. The Ravensburg Razorbacks declared their voluntary waiver of a starting place in the GFL 2 Süd as part of the licensing process. The Ingolstadt Dukes (1st RL South), who were able to prevail in the play-off games against the Long Knights , and the Munich Rangers (2nd RL South), who in turn beat the Albershausen Crusaders , rose.

Ascent and descent

North

Since there were only seven teams in the North Group in the German Football League , there was no relegation for promotion in the North in 2015. As champions of the GFL 2 Nord, the Hildesheim Invaders qualified for the GFL. At the end of the season, the Invaders officially registered for the GFL Nord 2016.

Due to the rise of the Hildesheim Invaders and the lack of relegation from the GFL Nord, the Bielefeld Bulldogs remained in the GFL 2 Nord despite the sporting descent.

south

As champions of the German Football League 2, Frankfurt Universe had to relegate against the Franken Knights, the last of the group south of the German Football League. However, the club management of the Franken Knights declared a waiver of the relegation games. As a result, Frankfurt Universe was automatically confirmed as a promoter to GFL Süd.

Since Holzgerlingen Twister did not apply for a license for the 2016 season , the Munich Rangers remained in GFL 2 Süd.
