The Potsdam Royals are a German American football team from the Brandenburg state capital Potsdam . You have been playing in the German Football League , the highest German league , since 2018 . There they finished fifth in the north group and narrowly missed the play-offs.

In addition to the men's team, the club has a, 2nd men's team, an Under-19 youth team, an Under-16 youth team as well as a flag football -Jugendmannschaft.

history

The Royals were founded in 2005 and entered the league in 2006 with both the men's and a youth team. The men's team competed in the Verbandsliga-Ost, which was then the fifth and lowest league. After only one draw in ten games in nine defeats in the first season, the Royals reached the play-offs two years later as leaders, in which they fought for promotion to the league. In 2010 the promotion to the German Football League 2 succeeded for the first time by relegation against the Hamburg Blue Devils . The sponsoring club waived the starting rights and dissolved the football division. A fresh start was made in 2012 in the Landesliga-Ost. In 2014, he was promoted again to the GFL2 via the Regionalliga-Ost. At the end of the season, the promotion succeeded.

The team played in the GFL for the first time in the 2018 season. The season ended as fifth in group north with 12:16 points. As a newcomer, they also entered the European Football League . They were able to win this competition by beating the Milano Seamen in the final .

In 2019, the Royals won the Eurobowl with a 62:12 win over the Amsterdam Crusaders . Quarterback Paul Zimmermann was chosen as the MVP of the game .
