Men's team
The Berlin Rebels have been officially participating in the various leagues of the AFVD (American Football Association Germany) since 1988 . From 1989 to 1991 the Rebels played in the second Bundesliga . From 1992 to 1995 they played in the first Bundesliga, today's GFL , before being relegated to the second Bundesliga again in 1996. In 1998, after winning the championship of the 2nd Bundesliga North, the Berlin Rebels decided to withdraw their men's team from playing. 2001 began a complete rebuilding in the fourth division (Oberliga). A year later, he was promoted to the regional league.
In 2004 the Berlin Rebels won the relegation against the Troisdorf Jets and were promoted to the second Bundesliga. Here they were runner-up in 2005, fifth in 2006 and 2007 and sixth in the 2008 season . In the 2009 season , the championship led to promotion to the GFL. The following year, however, the class could not be held, so that the team in 2010 relegated to the GFL 2 North. In the 2011 season, the Rebels managed to get promoted back to the GFL Nord as the second-placed team and they still play there today. Since the 2013 season there has also been a second men's team, which was promoted to the top division in its first year.
In the 2016 season , the Rebels reached the play-offs for the first time, but failed there in the quarter-finals at the Schwäbisch Hall Unicorns . A year later, the Unicorns were again opponents in the quarter-finals. Again the Unicorns won, but needed extra time. The Rebels had their most successful season to date in 2018 . They finished the GFL Nord as a third-placed team. The two teams ahead of them, New Yorker Lions and Dresden Monarchs , met on the last day of the match. Both teams needed a point to stay ahead of the Rebels. Both teams won this point through a draw and the Rebels had to be content with third place despite the direct comparisons they had won. In the quarter-finals they were defeated by Frankfurt Universe 6: 5 in a rain battle.
The home ground of the Bundesliga team was the Charlottenburg Mommsenstadion until the 2018 season . For the 2019 season, the Rebels will play in the slightly smaller Wilmersdorf stadium .
Youth team
The youth team of the Berlin Rebels (youth between the ages of 14 and 19) has existed since 1989. During this time, the team has always played in the highest German youth league without interruption. From 2004 to 2012 Kim Kuci was Head Coach of the Rebels Youth with whom he reached the semifinals of the German championship in 2005, 2006, 2008 and 2012. In addition, players are regularly nominated for the youth national team. In 2013 Nikolai Kaltenhofer was the team's head coach and again led the team to the semi-finals of the German championship. In 2004 the youth flag football team, founded in 2003, won the unbeaten title of German champions.
