Squad is the name for a group , a military unit in the Anglophone armed forces, not to be confused with Section in the French armed forces.

In the United States Army , the squad corresponds to a sub-unit that consists of 8 to 12 soldiers and is usually led by a sergeant . The US Squad is divided into two groups of four to five soldiers, who can be referred to as a fireteam . Two to four squads each form a platoon , which roughly corresponds to the platoon of the Bundeswehr .
The equivalent in the British Army is the Section (also in the Australian and Canadian Armies). A British section consists of 8 soldiers who are divided into two groups of four. A British section is usually led by a corporal .
The Squad corresponds to the German, Austrian and Swiss military the group .

Use in other areas
The term squad for a group is also used in other areas, such as fire brigade but police, also z. B. Cheerleading . In hip hop culture, the term refers to an informal group of individuals who are characterized by friendship and solidarity. For example, it is used in The Terror Squad and by four US politicians known as The Squad .
