The Ingolstadt Dukes are an American football team from the Bavarian city of Ingolstadt . They have been playing in the German Football League South since the 2017 season .
history
The team was founded on October 8, 2007.
In the first season of 2008, the Dukes played in the Bayern Aufbauliga. In the first year he was promoted to the regional league. Here, too, the Ingolstadt team dominated the league and played a “perfect season” (a season without its own defeat), which in 2009 led to the march through to the association league. There they reached the play-offs straight away and prevailed against the Bamberg Bears in the semi-finals . They also won the final against the Franconian Timberwolves and in 2010 they achieved their third promotion in a row (they now played in the Bayern League ). At the end of 2011, the American football department at MBB-SG Manching switched to TV 1861 Ingolstadt. In the same year, the next promotion was achieved, which is why the team played in the Regionalliga Süd from 2012 . After three years in this league, he was promoted to the German Football League 2 in 2014 .
During their first second division season, the team achieved second place in the German Football League 2 South after a season-long duel with the Frankfurt Universe team . In 2016, the Dukes were unbeaten champions of the German Football League 2 South and qualified with a 13-0 season (the season game between the Ingolstadt Dukes and the Kirchdorf Wildcats in Kirchdorf am Inn, which was canceled due to a storm, was not scheduled again) for the promotion relegation. Opponents in the relegation were the winless Rhein-Neckar Bandits , who reached the bottom of the table in the German Football League 2016 with a score of 0:14. Ingolstadt won the relegation first leg in Mannheim with 41: 6. In the relegation second leg, the Dukes were then able to make their promotion to the German Football League perfect with a 60: 0.
In their first season in the top division, the Dukes reached 4th place in the league and thus qualified for the play-offs. There they failed in the first round, the quarterfinals, with a 6:47 to the New York Lions Braunschweig .

This Ingolstadt club has had the Happy Bear as its mascot since it was founded in 2012. Since the two clubs worked together, the Happy Bear has also been the Dukes' mascot.
