Richard Frith

Richard Michael Cockayne Frith (born April 8, 1949 in Huntingdon , Cambridgeshire ) is a British Anglican theologian . He has been Bishop of Hereford in the Church of England since 2014 .

Life

Frith was born into a family of churchmen. His father was Canon Roger Cokayne Frith, who was temporarily pastor ( vicar ) of Feltwell . He attended Marlborough College in Wiltshire . He studied at Fitzwilliam College of Cambridge University , first story , but then switched to theology . In 1972 he graduated from there with a degree in theology. In preparation for the priesthood he attended St John's Theological College in Nottingham .

In 1974 he was ordained a deacon ; In 1975 he was ordained a priest . He began his priestly career from 1974 to 1978 as assistant vicar ( assistant curate ) in Mortlake with responsibility for the parish in East Sheen in Southwark . From 1978 to 1983 he was pastor ( Team Vicar ) in Thamesmead and then from 1983 to 1992 Pastor ( Team Rector ) in Keynsham , in the Diocese of Bath and Wells . From 1991 to 1998 he was Präbendar ( prebendary ) at the Wells Cathedral . In 1992 he became archdeacon ( archdeacon ; head of a church district) of Taunton ; he held this office until he was promoted to bishop.

In 1998 he was appointed suffragan bishop in the Diocese of York in the Church of England as "Bishop of Hull" . He officially took office in January 1999.

In July 2014, his appointment as Bishop of Hereford was announced. He succeeded Anthony Priddis , who had retired in September 2013. His inauguration and enthronement as "Bishop of Hereford" took place on November 22, 2014 at Hereford Cathedral .

Frith is since 2004 a trustee ( Trustee ) of the charity The Mission to Seafarers .

Family and private

Frith has been married to his wife Kay for the second time since April 2006. His first marriage was divorced in 1999. He is the father of a total of four children. He has two sons and two daughters of his own and four stepchildren.

His hobbies include sports (as a spectator), especially cricket , and theater .
