Alison Mary White (* 1956 ) is a British Anglican theologian . On March 25, 2015, she was appointed Suffragan Bishop of Hull . She was the second bishop in the Church of England after Libby Lane .

Life

White studied English at St Aidan's College, University of Durham , where she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts (BA) in 1978 . She later studied theology at the University of Leeds , where she earned a Master of Arts (MA) degree in 1994 .

In preparation for her priesthood, she attended from 1983 the Cranmer Hall Theological College, a theological college of the Anglican Church, in Durham , which is attached to St John's College of the University of Durham. In 1986 she became a deaconess . In 1987 she was ordained a deacon ; In 1994 she was ordained a priest . She began her priestly career from 1986 to 1989 as an honorary vicar ( Non-stipendiary priest ; NSM) in Chester-le-Street in the Diocese of Durham. On March 25, 2015, White's appointment as suffragan bishop of Hull in the ecclesiastical province of York was announced. She is the second female bishop in the Church of England after Libby Lane, ordained suffragan Bishop of Stockport in January 2015 . Her episcopal ordination took place on July 3, 2015 at York Minster .

Alison White is married to Frank White , Assistant Bishop of Newcastle in the Church of England. The couple is childless.
