Iryna Wikyrtschak ( Ukrainian Ірина Вікирчак ; transliteration Iryna Vikyrčak ; born May 17, 1988 in Salishchyky , Ternopil Oblast ) is a Ukrainian writer , poet , translator and cultural manager .

biography

Iryna Wikyrtschak is the daughter of a physicist and a biologist. After studying foreign languages ​​at the National Jurij Fedkowytsch University of Chernivtsi , she began to write and worked from 2011 to 2013 as curator of the Meridian Czernowitz poetry festival and, with Milena Findeis, was one of the co-developers of the “Zeitzug” program as a traveling literary festival from Chernivtsi via Prague Vienna (2011) and the “Poetic Tour” from Kiev via Chernivtsi, Lviv and Berlin to Bremen (2013). She was supported by the Goethe Institute in Kiev, among others . In 2014 she started the non-commercial publisher “The Veranda Project” with the American writer Cora Schwartz, a project that is currently on hold. She also works as a developer, producer and program director for the CulTour.ua, which was launched in early 2015 and organized trips for Ukrainian translators and writers to Poland and the Netherlands, and for the international short story festival “Intermezzo”, which is also a new international event City of Vinnytsia , which first took place from May 22 to 24, 2015. From June 2016 she was the head of the European Union's project “Creative Europe” in Ukraine in Kiev , then moved to Lviv to work as a department head in the urban development department of the Lviv city ​​council .

For a few semesters she taught English at the University of Chernivtsi, she taught creative writing and lived in Lviv. In 2019 her Ukrainian translation of Paula McLain's novel “The Paris Wife” was published in Chernivtsi. Since autumn 2019 she has been the cultural manager of the " Olga Tokarczuk Foundation" in Wroclaw . She also works at the Literaturhaus Breslau (Wrocławski Dom Literatury), which is why she now lives in Breslau.

She has been a member of the Ukrainian PEN Club since November 2019 .

The poet has published poems in various Ukrainian and Polish almanacs (e.g. Radar) and magazines. Translations are available in Polish, English, German and Spanish.
