Allison White

Allison White (1859)

Allison White (born December 21, 1816 in Pine , Lycoming County , Pennsylvania , †  April 5, 1886 in Philadelphia , Pennsylvania) was an American politician . Between 1857 and 1859 he represented the state of Pennsylvania in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Allison White attended his homeland public schools and then Allegheny College in Meadville . After studying law and being admitted to the bar, he began working in this profession in Lock Haven . At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Democratic Party .

In the congressional elections of 1856 White was elected to the United States House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the 15th  constituency of Pennsylvania , where he succeeded John Jamison Pearce on March 4, 1857 . Since he was not confirmed in 1858, he could only complete one legislative period in Congress until March 3, 1859 . This was shaped by the events leading up to the civil war . During his tenure as a congressman, White chaired the Public Property Spend Control Committee.

After his time in the US House of Representatives, he worked in Philadelphia in the wood and coal business. He died there on April 5, 1886.
