John Jamison Pearce
John Jamison Pearce (born February 28, 1826 in Wilkes-Barre , Pennsylvania , † May 26, 1912 in Conneaut , Ohio ) was an American politician . Between 1855 and 1857 he represented the state of Pennsylvania in the US House of Representatives .
Career
John Pearce attended preparatory schools and then embarked on a theological career. At the age of 18 he was ordained a clergyman in the Methodist Episcopal Church . As such, he worked in various cities in Pennsylvania. Politically, he did not appear until the 1850s as a member of the short-lived Opposition Party .
In the congressional election of 1854 , Pearce was elected to the 15th constituency of Pennsylvania in the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , where he succeeded James Gamble on March 4, 1855 . Since he renounced another candidacy in 1856, he could only complete one legislative period in Congress until March 3, 1857 . This was shaped by the events leading up to the civil war .
After his time in the US House of Representatives, John Pearce worked again as a clergyman in various parts of his home state. In 1888 he retired, initially staying in Lock Haven . He later moved to Conneaut, Ohio, where he died on May 26, 1912.
