The German Bowl XXXVIII , the final of the German Football League (GFL) in the 2016 season , took place on October 8, 2016 in Berlin's Friedrich-Ludwig-Jahn-Sportpark .
The defending champion and northern champion, the New Yorker Lions from Braunschweig , again met the southern champion and runner-up, the Schwäbisch Hall Unicorns . This means that for the third German Bowl in a row, the same teams that met in the Eurobowl XXIX in 2015 will face each other. Braunschweig won every time.
The final was dominated by the defensive lines at the beginning. Then alternating touchdowns were scored at the halftime score of 14:14, which, according to Haller coach Siegfried Gehrke, was the first time that Hallers were not behind a final break against the Lions.
