German Bowl XXXI was the 31st edition of the final in the highest German Football League German Football League (GFL). The German Bowl took place on October 3rd, 2009 between the Berlin Adler and the Kiel Baltic Hurricanes in the Commerzbank-Arena in Frankfurt am Main , making it the first final in 13 years without the Braunschweig Lions participating . The game was broadcast live on German sports television . The Berlin Adler prevailed with 28:21.
Course of the game
The first points of the game came in the first quarter for the Hurricanes when Simon Sommerfeld ran for 41 yards for a touchdown . The next points only followed in the second quarter. Berlin's kicker Benjamin Scharweit converted a 36 yard field goal to 3: 7. After a touchdown by a pass from US quarterback Jon Grant to Pascal Heck to 10: 7 it went into halftime. In the third quarter, the Kiel team scored points with a run by Brandon Langston and took the lead again. This was followed by a 42-yard field goal by the Adler to make it 13:14. Kyle Callahan, quarterback for the Hurricanes, was able to throw a touchdown pass to Philipp Heider in the fourth quarter, which led to the 13:21. With a touchdown by the Berlin running back David McCants with a subsequent two-point conversion , both teams drew level. The final score of 28:21 was determined after another touchdown run by McCants.
