Course of the game
The Schwäbisch Hall Unicorns won the Coin Toss and decided to receive the ball. They were then able to complete their first attempt at attack with points after a 29-yard field goal . The New York Lions were able to end their subsequent attack series with points after a 12-yard touchdown run and subsequent PAT . The following series of attacks by Unicorns ended without points with a punt , just as the following series of attacks by the Braunschweiger passed without points through the end of the first quarter.
In the second quarter, the Lions' first series of attacks brought the next points after just 39 seconds. The Lions achieved the second touchdown and the PAT after bridging five yards. The next possession of the Unicorns ended with a fumble on their own 37-yard line. The Lions were able to successfully complete the ball possession that resulted for them. The PAT that followed the 14-yard touchdown run could not be converted. The Unicorns had to complete their next attack series again without points. This time an interception led to the ball being lost. The following series of attacks by the Lions ended after a 15-yard touchdown pass with a subsequent PAT, while the following series of attacks by the Unicorns again ended with a mistake, another interception, without points. The last Lions streak ended with a 2 yard touchdown run followed by a PAT. The last series of attacks by the Unicorns was ended by the half-time break.
The third quarter began with the Lions' possession of the ball, who successfully completed it with a 2-yard tochdown run. The Unicorns were able to block the PAT successfully. The following series of attacks by the Unicorns and the Lions ended without points.
In the fourth quarter, the Lions had the first right of attack and were able to successfully complete this with a 3-yard tochdown run and subsequent PAT. The following series of unicorns ended with another interception. The Lions had to return the captured ball without any further points. This was followed by the last successful series of attacks by the Unicorns. With a 21-yard tochdown pass they could immortalize themselves on the scoreboard again. The Lions were able to block the following PAT. The final whistle ended the Lions' last possession.
While many experts had expected a balanced game between two teams of equal value before the game, the Lions showed themselves to be superior to the Unicorns for the entire game. Only the first quarter was halfway balanced.
