The German Bowl XXIX was the 29th edition of the German Bowl final of the highest German football league , the German Football League (GFL). It took place on October 6, 2007 in front of 8,152 spectators in the GAZi stadium in Stuttgart . Opposite were the Stuttgart Scorpions , who officially competed as an away team in the home stadium, and the ultimately victorious Braunschweig Lions .
Course of the game
The game began with the Stuttgart Scorpions in possession of the ball for around ten minutes. The drive ended with a missed field goal attempt without a point. Then the Braunschweig Lions took over the ball, but had to give it back after a fumble . The Stuttgart could not convert the ball possession that followed until the end of the first quarter into points.
At the beginning of the second quarter, the Braunschweig Lions regained possession of the ball and then used it for a touchdown by WR Olaf Fischer, followed by an extra point (point after touchdown, PAT) for the lead. The following possession of the Scorpions was again without countable success. In return, the Lions managed another touchdown in their subsequent possession by QB Matt Crocket with an 18-yard run.
After the half-time break nothing changed in the dominance of the Braunschweig Defense. A safety by LB Andre Krüger increased the Braunschweig points account. The subsequent possession of the ball was also used by the Braunschweiger for a touchdown by WR Jörg Heckenbach, with a subsequent 2 point conversion .
The Stuttgart team were able to use the possession of the ball at the beginning of the fourth quarter and scored the first points with a touchdown by QB Ira Vandever. The subsequent extra point could not be achieved. The Braunschweiger now use the music box cleverly and took a lot of time off the music box with their next drive, which ended successfully with a 44-yard field goal by K Steffen Dölger. The Scorpions could not use the remaining playing time to win points.
With their sixth German championship title, the Braunschweig Lions drew level with the German record champion Düsseldorf Panther . With the larger number of finals, the Lions have replaced the Panthers as the most successful national team.
