2nd American Football Bundesliga 1993

This article gives an overview of the German Football League 2 1993 , which at that time was still played as American Football Second Bundesliga in four groups.

In 1993 the clubs in the Second Bundesliga were confronted with the situation that due to the upcoming gradual downsizing of the 1st Bundesliga in 1993 , which to date (and now as the German Football League again) played in two groups of eight teams each, in extreme cases only Relegation was planned for two of the total of eight teams in the second division groups, since from the 1st Bundesliga 1993, if necessary, several teams for 1994 should be relegated to one of the two subordinate, also reduced, second division groups, and regional league teams should also be able to rise.

Some teams were therefore aiming for the group title and the first division promotion possible after relegation games.

Group middle

The favorite of the league were the Frankfurt Gamblers . The successor club to the Frankfurt Lions , the first German football team founded in 1977 and two-time German champions, had profited from the football boom that the US professionals of the Frankfurt Galaxy had created in 1991 and 1992. After the US league temporarily withdrew, European entrepreneurs wanted to use the gap semi-professionally and invested in big city clubs.

The Backnang Wolverines were allowed to play again in the 2nd Bundesliga middle in 1994, instead of the Frankfurt Gamblers , who were not allowed to climb up after violating the rules in the relegation, nor wanted to play second class again and switched to the new semi-professional Football League of Europe .

The Badener Greifs and Bad Homburg Falken were relegated from the 1st Bundesliga South , Stuttgart Scorpions and Darmstadt Diamonds also held the class, while the Rüsselsheim Razorbacks and Dillingen Steelhawks rose from the regional leagues . In 1994 there were seven second division clubs in the middle group.

The Scorpions rose again, Darmstadt and Rüsselsheim remained in second place, Backnang took fourth place again, but played in the fourth class Oberliga Baden-Württemberg in 1995. The Badener Greifs and Dillingen Steelhawks went into the new Regionalliga Mitte, the Bad Homburg Falken broke up.
