The Badener Greifs are a German American football club from Karlsruhe .
history
The Greifs were founded in 1982 by a group of motorcycle enthusiasts, making them one of the oldest still existing American football clubs in Germany. They have been taking part in gaming since 1983. The Greifs celebrated their first major success in 1985 with promotion to the 1st Bundesliga . In 1987 the biggest success in the club's history followed, the entry into the German Bowl IX. After victories in the play-offs against the Dortmund Giants (48: 6) and Ansbach Grizzlies (13: 7), the Baden team lost to the Berlin Adler in the final with 12:37. Overall, the Greifs reached the play-offs between 1986 and 1991 and won their season four times. But they did not get beyond the quarter-finals of the German Bowl. The youth team also acted well during this time and reached the semi-finals of the Junior Bowl in 1989 . In 1992 the Greifs missed the play-offs for the first time and only barely avoided relegation. Equal points with the two relegated Stuttgart Scorpions and Darmstadt Diamonds , the Greifs received the highest German league only through better direct comparisons . Relegation then followed a year later in the 1993 season . The penultimate rank in their group was undoing for the Greifs, as the number of teams in the 1st Bundesliga was reduced by one team. But even in the 1994 season, the downward trend could not be stopped, and they were relegated again and were thus only third-rate for the first time in the club's history. After another mixed season in 1995, the Greifs twice reached second place in the regional league middle. In 1998 he won the championship and was promoted to the 2nd Bundesliga. After only two seasons it went back to the regional league. In addition to the men's team, there are always youth teams that actively participate in the game.
In the 2010 season, the Badener Greifs men's team was promoted to the 2nd Bundesliga again after a successful season, from which they were relegated at the end of the season.
Since July 2011 there is also a 5-on-5-Senior-Flag-Team at the Badener Greifs. Flag Football is the low-contact variant of American football.
