The Rüsselsheim Razorbacks , from 2002 to 2006 Rhein-Main Razorbacks , from Rüsselsheim am Main in Hesse , were an American Sports Club for American Football .

history

In 1989 the Rüsselsheim Razorbacks were founded as a division of the TG Rüsselsheim , and in the following year (1990) it was accepted into the American Football Association Hesse (AFVH).

In 1991 the first regular season followed in the Association League Rhineland-Palatinate / Hesse, in which the Razorbacks were champions with 10: 2 points and were promoted to the Middle Regional League.

The 1992 season ended as the third in the Regionalliga Mitte. In 1993 promotion to the 2nd Bundesliga was achieved, in which the team reached third place in 1994. The first international appearance of the Rüsselsheim Razorbacks was against the Belgian champions Brussels Raiders .

In 1995 the season ended as the undefeated champions of the 2nd Bundesliga South and promotion to the 1st Bundesliga, today's German Football League (GFL), was achieved.

In 1996 the team won the Hessen Cup and reached fifth place in the first Bundesliga year. The 1997 season ended again in fifth place. From 1998 to 2003, the Razorbacks took part in the playoffs of the GFL and were in 1999, 2002 and 2003 respectively southern champions. In 2002 the team renamed itself Rhein-Main Razorbacks .

Although the license from the American Football Association Germany to participate in the GFL was already available for 2004 , the men's team withdrew from the GFL's game operations immediately before the start of the season and initially dissolved. In autumn 2005 a new men's team was established, which in 2006 played in the Aufbauliga Mitte and took third place. In December 2006, the association decided to rename itself to Rüsselsheim Razorbacks and thus to use the original name again.

The association was closed in 2010.
